$189 for some straps and handles?4

Okay it seems very well made but its just straps and handles! I'm glad I got it and like using it. I'd recommend it but when you realize that you paid all that for just...okay I won't say it again!

The carrying bag it comes with is a little too small to conveniently get the TRX into. It can be done but it wouldn't have hurt to make it a little bigger.More detail ...

Bowflex PR3000 Home Gym

Bowflex PR3000 Does Everything I Need4

Brief story - months ago I was in the market for a home gym that uses free weights but I happened to try out the PR3000 at Sports Authority and I really liked it. We bought another unit but it didn't turn out to be exactly what we needed and eventually I found myself remembering the PR3000 fondly.

When we finally decided to go with a Bowflex for a couple reasons - less weight on our floor and not having to move weights around our apartment. I thought I'd go for one of the long ones that let you do rowing and - I thought - leg curls. But after I tried the units with rowing I didn't actually care for the slightly loose feeling in the seat when it was locked in place and I also discovered that some Blowflex don't do leg curls and others have a complicated way of doing them.

So I went back and tried out the PR3000 again - and it was as much fun to use as I remembered it plus it has a no-cable-changes design that made switching exercises easier. So I tried a workaround someone reviewing a different Bowflex on Amazon recommended for another unit which was basically do the leg curls while standing and facing the unit. I tried that on the PR3000 at the store and it worked fine for me so I finally got it and I love using it.

The pluses:

* It doesn't take much floor space

* I don't have to move heavy weights around during my workout

* It's very quiet

* No cable changes keeps workouts moving along

* Motion is smooth (smoother than the Weider Platinum)

* Very good assembly directions

* A lot of things adjust for different sized people

* Top pulleys are on hook-and-eyes so that they swivel

* Can be upgraded to 310 pounds

* Very well-made more attention to detail than other equipment we've had

The minuses:

* Doesn't come with a lat bar although you can do pulldowns with the hand grips

* The manual isn't as detailed as other Bowflex units although still better than most other home gyms.

* Very short warranty on smaller parts. I got an extended warranty.

* Bows resistance isn't the weight specified (I measured and it's lighter) but there was still more than enough resistance to give me a burn. Larger men and very fit people should probably get the 310 lb upgrade pretty quickly.

Weider X-Factor Door Gym

Decent product if you can find a door that will shut with it on4

Well let me start off by saying I bought this yesterday (Valentine's Day) returned it today because I couldn't find a door that would shut with the equipment installed. I'm disappointed because I think it would be a good exercise product & I was really looking forward to trying it out. I gave it 4 stars because of the price quality & ease of installing/removing & storing it. I'd like to give it 3.5 stars though b/c I couldn't find a place to use it in my apartment. Also shop around.... I bought mine at a local Dick's store for $99.99 plus tax didn't have to wait (or pay) for delivery.

Pros:

- Seemed well made for the price. (Didn't get to use it so don't know about longevity but nice out of the box)

- EXTREMELY easy to install. From the box to installed in 10 minutes. Very easy to put up take down & store. (I easily moved it around to every door in my apartment trying to find a good place to use it)

- Small light weight & portable.

Cons:

- The brackets that go over the door are wide so they'll fit over thick doors. They don't fit thin doors very well.

- Instructions which you don't see until you buy it recommend installing the X-Factor on the side of the door that closes against the door jamb (for example most doors open into a room so you would have to install it & exercise on the side of the door that's in the hallway). The reason is to increase the strength of the door as you pull against it during exercise. They don't come right out & say it but this reduces the chance that your door could bust open & fling against you during your workout. Referring back to my example if you're exercising inside the room the only thing holding the door shut is the door latch.

- There MUST be at least 1/8" clearance between the top of the door & door frame (header). Same for the bottom of the door & the floor (sill). This is so the bracket can fit between the door & the frame/floor when you shut the door w/ the X-Factor installed. This is where I had problems and had to return it without any chance of using it. I found reviews on other websites (sorry can't recall where) that a few people had the same problem but didn't give details so I took my chances. One person said they trimmed the door shorter to fix the problem. I'm a renter so that's not an option. Another point to be aware of if your doors are hollow core not solid wood trimming them shorter may reduce their strength and when you start pulling on them w/ the X-Factor you may end up damaging your door & hurting yourself.

So before you buy this check your doors to make sure there's enough clearance & that you can install it in a place where you'll enjoy working out & be able to watch the videos too (back to my example... I don't know anyone who has a t.v. & dvd player in their hall).

Also Google around for other reviews. It seemed like there was a mix beginners & pros and there was a variety of opinions. The pros felt it was a good "back-up" but wouldn't give up their pro equipment and the beginners thought it was a good product to start with.

Not sure if this will add to your decision or not or your opinion on my review... so here's a little about me:

I'm a 34 yr old female. I work in an office all day and am very disgusted w/ how out of shape I've become from sitting on my butt for up to 70 hrs a week. I want something that will exercise my whole body and can be used in short or long time frames for a good work out. I also want something that doesn't take up a lot of space & is easy to move around as necessary and yah doesn't cost a fortune either. I really thought I struck gold w/ X-Factor. Bummer... the search continues.

Good luck in the frustrating quest to find exercise equipment that's right for you!More detail ...

Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym

Great Product5

This just arrived today. Took about 2 hours to assemble but it's pretty easy. I almost bought this from another site because they were going to assemble it (would've been 200 extra dollars for that) and I am very glad I did it myself.

This unit is extremely sturdy and well put together. I was a bit nervous to buy this because I have young kids I did not want to trash it. Believe me they couldn't! This is far too well-designed and durable.

Worked out for about an hour and I love it. Lots of exercises you can do (both muscular and cardio) and you can really feel it.

As others have noted on other models I can see how the weights (200 lbs) might not be enough but I am not looking to become the Incredible Hulk. This unit is perfect to stay fit and not let those holiday meals get the upper hand.

I really recommend this to anyone who wants to work at home and does not want to be bored with the same old routine (treadmill stationary bike etc.)

Great job Bowflex!More detail ...

Good product good price.4

I bought this item with little knowledge of it. I had read mixed reviews of it on here but decided to go with my gut feeling and just get it. It's a pretty good product over all installs easy to any door and is fun to use. The workout instructions are somewhat vague but the dvd certainly helps. For those of you that are always at the gym or are in incredible shape this wont help you much. For those of you that are crunched for time or have little experience at the gym this is a nice workout item that can get you into shape. I incorporate this in my martial arts regualr gym and cardio workouts and it fits nice.More detail ...

TRX Suspension Training Pro Pack

It's up to you.5

What I absolutely love about the TRX is that it is completely up to you. Completely up to you to set it up use it and bring it with you when you travel. It's easy to do all of that. The results? If you push the last few reps when you are burning you will get them. Like anything else. I am a triathlete and use the TRX regularly to supplement my SBR routines and although still do weights all the stabilization work on the TRX has (knock on wood) given me injury free results. I also come from having had two back surgeries and a knee surgery. Training with body weight intelligently is phenomenal and trx's videos and community make it easy to build an intelligent program. I travel back and forth between the city and country and throw the TRX in it's little bag that it comes with. IT's that simple and i look forward to 'playing on it' working out with it... it's one of the only pieces of training equipment that i have used that is literally fun to play around with. If you are on the fence about it don't be. Go for it.More detail ...

Pero Instant Natural Beverage 7-Ounce Canisters (Pack of 6)

Review of Roastaroma Cafix Pero and Postum4

I recently gave up coffee and decided to try three different coffee substitutes: Roastaroma Cafix and Pero. Although Cafix tasted the most like real coffee (and it tastes *a lot* like real coffee) and all three products are pretty good Roastaroma was my favorite.

It is very similar to coffee but it doesn't quite have the bitter bite of coffee. Those of you who are looking for that slight bitterness might prefer Cafix. Roastaroma actually reminds me a little bit of Mexican hot chocolate--the cinnamon and carob flavors come through pretty strongly in the drink giving it a cinnamon-chocolatey flavor. I used to drink coffee to satisfy my sweet tooth on low calories. This drink totally fits the bill for this purpose.

The Pero is pretty good too. Like Roastaroma it doesn't have the bitter coffee taste but it still makes for a decent imitation of decaf. I like to drink it with cinnamon-flavored powdered creamer. Pero's a good value too: it's strong enough that you don't need to use very much to flavor your whole drink. I drink the Pero when I'm trying to ration the Roastaroma out to myself so as not to run out.

So Roastaroma has the best flavor Cafix tastes the most like coffee and Pero is a good back-up.

A quick note on Postum: I do not care for it. I find that people who like Postum tend to be people who were never coffee drinkers. It tastes nothing like coffee. If you try Postum as a coffee substitute you will be disappointed.

Great Home Gym5

I purchased this home gym two months ago and am very pleased and excited with the decision. I started exercising (cardio and dumbbell) and eating right four months ago. Once I added this home gym the weight started to fall off and the muscles started to build. In four months I have lost 34 lbs and 13% body fat (35% to 22%).

One note; if you have the opportunity to have a professional assemble the gym do so. It gave me a headache just looking at all of the pieces and took two people who have put many together over three hours.More detail ...

Make Sure You Have The Time4

Though once this piece of excercise equipment is built it's everything the advertisements from print to infomercial declare. However somewhere I swear I read it takes only 45 minutes to put together and just taking the parts from the 5 large boxes took well over an hour. Further the actual installation took over two days; and I'd like to think my buddy and myself are pretty good at these things. However as I said once put together this is one solid helpful piece of excercise equipment. One more thing be sure you have the space for it once assembled. It really is a large piece of equipment both vertically and horizontally. Good Luck!More detail ...

BodyCraft Galena Pro Home Gym

Well worth the money5

I have had a Galena model including the leg press add-on since 2004. It's a very solid well-made gym. I'm 6'3" and have not had any trouble doing any of the exercises. If you're much taller than 6'3" you may find the leg extension less than satisfactory. (It just barely works for me.) All parts move with ease and without noise except for the customary clank the moment the weight stack comes back to rest after an exercise. It came with all the straps and widgets needed to do the full range of exercises. So no other expense other than a book I purchased to help me see other ways to use a weight machine. (The manual and exercise poster that came with my Galena didn't describe all of the various exercises that can be done with it and there's a LOT more that can be done than what they tell you. Perhaps since 2004 they've added a little more documentation?) It fits nicely into a corner of the room and looks like it belongs in a commercial gym. For the money I didn't find anything else close to this quality back in 2004. I'm quite happy with my purchase.More detail ...

Weider Max Weight System

You get what you pay for2

The good: Machine can do a lot of different exercises. It's priced pretty well.

No big deal: Assembly took me almost 4 hours by myself but all the parts were there and bolts were well organized. After exercising a few times changing the cable hookups become very cumbersome. It makes super-sets impractical unless the exercises use the same cable hookups.

The Bad: After 2 weeks of use I snapped the 40lb resistance bar like a twig.

The Ugly: I would like to get this resistance bar replaced. When I try calling the only 2 phone numbers that I have for Weider (customer service number & sales number) I get a "number not available" message.More detail ...

Bowflex Motivator 2 Home Gym [Discontinued]

Better Than Expected5

I have owned this bowflex for 2 weeks and I am very very impressed. We have owned a "gravity edge" and have worked on a "Solo Flex" before and after seeing this bowflex we can understand why the machine has stayed popular for so long.

First the assembly wasn't too hard. It took me and my 13-year-old daughter about an hour and a half to put it together. I was relieved when I saw that the machine is very ruggedly built. Note that I said VERY ruggedly built. It would be hard to trash this machine without trying very hard.

Second the machine is very easy to adjust between exercises. Adding or removing weight is a piece of cake which is a relief after so many pinched fingers and long waits on other machines. Changing the bench position is just a tiny bit tougher to master than changing weights. There are occassions when you have to attach different pullies from the lat tower or the leg extension attachment. This takes a couple of times to get used to and then it's no problem either. I can change the machine from the leg extension position to the bench press position in just over 30 seconds.

Third the program is great and very easy to understand. It focuses on using heavy weight and 1 set per exercise and has an easy way for you to figure out which weight you should be using for each exercise. The program was explained well enough in the machine's manual but I bought a book called "The Bowflex Body Plan" when I ordered my machine and I'm glad I did. You don't have to have it but it explains more about the program to help you buy into it. It also has several routines that go beyond the initial six weeks plan... for those of us that are optimistic about wanting to continue past six weeks.

I am a house parent for a girls' home. We have six girls living here with us and all but one jumped right into our "bowflex club" with me. We all have workout logs and are doing our routines three times per week. So far we've been doing it for two weeks and nobody has dropped out. That has surprised me. The workout routine for the first two weeks takes around 15 minutes to complete so nobody has time to get bored.

What's great in all this is that over the last two weeks all 9 of us that are involved with the bowflex have gotten considerably stronger. Muscles are starting to show up on just about everybody which is really keeping everyone excited. I've already had people I know ask me if I'm losing weight most likely because my thighs have really tightened up already. We're all looking forward to how we'll progress. Since next week is our third week we'll be adding new exercises to the routine too.

I'm very glad I bought this machine at Amazon.com. Not only was it $200 cheaper than other places but it got to my house in only 4 days too. The only surprises we've had in this whole experience were good. We're very pleased.More detail ...

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!1

I purchased this item on December 9th. It came in a fair amount of time. That is not my issue. What is my issue is that It came with NONE of the pieces needed to actually put it together (screws bolts nuts.. etc..basically items numbers 24-58 on the INCLUDED IN YOUR ORDER list) For WEEKS now I have been trying to get them to call me back and complete my order. I got through to someone ONCE. I was then mailed 12 pieces of one of the many missing items. Of that kind I needed 16!! HAHA! Are you kidding me??? Is this how to do business?? I am making it my full time job to complain to everyone until my order get completed starting now.

Bowflex Ultimate 2 Home Gym (Refurbished)

A Real Machine5

I saw this come up and I had to give this a rating it deserved. I'll hope to expand later.

Does this come in separate boxes? Yes about six. (I had more as I bought extra.) Does it take a while to put together? Yes a few hours over a few days. Has it been amazing? Yes. I saw nearly instantaneous results. It's easy to use and makes working out from home a dream. I can shift between various exercises quickly and easily. I highly recommend it.

Also I highly recommend the ab attachment which is not included in this. It makes an ab workout easier faster and more effective.More detail ...

Powerline BSG10X Home Gym Short Assembly 160lb Weight Stack

Near Perfect!5

I've had this home gym for a few months now and am finally submitting a review. I wanted to put some miles on it as well as see if the novelty would wear off before rating. Overall I am still very satisfied and thrilled with the purchase. It's been worth every penny not having to spend money on gym memberships time and gas (which = more $).

I did alot of comparisons before and after the purchase. I can honestly say - for the value quality versatility and convenience - you just can't beat it.

I chose this gym for the following main reasons:

1. Well built.

2. Comes with most of the main components (especially cables) already assembled. You will need a helping hand to lift move and hold a section or two while you fasten them together. My 10 year old son was perfect for the job.

3. Most versatile - in terms of types of exercises (especially when you get creative and add certain attachments to it). Fully adjustable for fit and comfortability.

4. Iron stack (not cement blocks). Plus you can purchase and add more weight to the standard 160lbs that come with it.

5. Relatively small footprint. I had a leverage bench press machine (used only for chest exercises) that took up more space than this gym that practically works out your whole body.

6. Much easier than adding and removing free weight plates when changing exercises. On this machine it's a matter of pulling and setting a couple of pins and clips and jumping right to the next workout. No lagging! Because of the ease resulting from the clever design I find that it's more fun and addictive to use.

7. Looks a lot nicer than most home gyms.

8. Allows me to be home with my family after work and still get in a great workout.

My friends love it and always get on it when they're visiting.

Recommend if:

You want to stay healthy develop strength stamina and endurance build toned muscle and have a good physical appearance.

Bottom line is: I LOVE IT; I'm glad I got it and would recommend it without hesitation. It's a home gym and a great quality home gym. Don't expect a super-heavy-duty industrial-grade one-excercise-specific piece of commercial-gym equipment.

PS> Instead of a $79 rubber mat I bought a $15 six-piece foam puzzle mat set to put under it; and works just fine! Put money saved towards other fun attachments - like the rope attachment for tricep pulldowns!

Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE Home Gym (Refurbished)

Excellent deal quick shipping5

I purchased the refurbished model of the Xtreme 2 SE. Other than that some items remained assembled (which helped in assembly) it appeared unused and new. It shipped within 3 working days and arrived in 12 days from time of order. It arrived on a pallet and the boxes were damaged but was packed well enough internally that the forklift damage didn't affect the components and all parts and pieces remained inside the opened boxes.

It was very easy to assemble. I opened all the packages took inventory to ensure I had all the parts including bolts and screws and gathered tools. The only item not included was an allen wrench that was to be used on the majority of the "button head" bolts. Fortunately I had one in the tool box. Assembly instructions were in clear concise American English with adequate assembly diagrams. From delivery hauling the items upstates unboxing removing packing materials to curbside inventory tool search and assembly to first test run was 3 unrushed hours.

I have used it for several days and find that it will serve its desired purpose to help me maintain muscle tone and general health. I have used free weights extensively in the past and the resistance system is different but I can see that for working out solo and for general fitness it will be ideal and you are going to have to work to injure yourself unlike free weights.

The "No Change Pulley System" is a joy to use. No having to switch cables to work out. You do need to plan your workouts to keep from switching attachments but with the right planning it is very easy to get a workout with minimal adjustment/change time between exercises. It is quicker than a free weight system unless you have free run of a gym with each station set up for each particular exercise set with your particular weights. The resistance bars are easy to change and quick to adjust.

Small footprint but you will also need a spot to store attachments. I purchased an upgrade to 310 lbs and inserted them when assembling. I recommend that you do that also as you would have to do some disassembly if you install them after the intial assembly and if you search the web you can find discount coupons to save 10-20% of the $99 asking price. I also purchased the Easy Curl bar at the same time (not required but I am glad I got it). The system does come with a strap to retain the resistance bars when not in use.

I am very pleased with the purchase and as only time will tell how it will hold up it appears to be a solid well built machine that has all of the items that I will need to maintain general fitness and allow the wife to do the same.

I highly recommend the refurbished Bowflex Xtreme 2 SEMore detail ...

Total Gym Xl

Total Gym - great workout!5

I have been using the Total Gym XL for around 5 weeks. If you are a serious bodybuilder this is probably not the home gym for you. But if you are looking to tone up and strenghten your whole body or if you are like me over 55 and trying not to lose any more muscle mass :) this is GREAT piece of equipment! After just a couple days of getting used to the gym it takes just seconds to change the resistance level add or remove the wing attachment or add or remove the cable pulley for the various exercises. The included DVDs flip chart and wall chart make it easy to tailor your workout to your personal goals. It is a well made piece of equipment and glides very smoothly. Improvements come quickly at first - I have already moved up a level of resistance in several exercises. Highly recommended. More detail ...

Total Gym 3000

Good entry level equipment4

OK I bought a used total gym 3000 for 100.00 a year ago. I have used it on a regular basis ever since. The unit has gotten a little noiser and is not nearly as easy to put away as they would have you believe. However it *does* work you out well. It is easy to use and effective. Maybe the body rail is better (it would be nice to have something wall mounted!) BUT - this is a review of the total gym 3000. I have lost weight gained muscle and never hurt myself. Does everything it says it will do. Certainly not a ripoff IF you use it. More detail ...

Total Trainer Power Pro Black

The BEST!5

I'm really glad to be writing this review as I fully believe the Total Trainer is the best home exercise machine on the market bar none!

I've worked out on plenty of machine and free weight systems but the glide rail is without question the very best way to get the exercise you need with the minimum of hassle or danger.

With machines and free weights you're working to move plates or dumbbells against gravity. Most people agree that free weights produce the best results but just as many people will warn of their dangers. The problem is one of control or rather the lack of it in a vulnerable position. More than one person has been injured by a sudden muscle failure during a squat thrust or a bench press. That's why spotters are essential if you're going to use these kinds of weights.

What about the rest of us who don't want the bother and fuss with all that? Are we left to mess with machines with cables and plates?

I saw the first Chuck Norris infomercial many years ago and thought it was the worst gimmick. C'mon Chuck. How cool is that? Its too simple. Too basic. Too boring.

Well fast forward to the present and I recently saw another Chuck and Cindy infomercial and y'know what? The point they made is very valid. They're still hawking this thing because they're still using it. Yep. The glide board trainer is something you can stay with for a long time.

So I made the decision to get one. I researched and reviewed and Googled the heck out of these things to find out the real scoop. (Like you're doing now right?) Which unit is the one to get? Well any glide board trainer is the one to get. You just need to determine which model.

I really like the Bayou Fitness Power Pro Total Trainer (say that three times quickly.) Why? Its everything the high dollar Total Gym unit has with even more accessories. This unit is ROCK SOLID and is actually a light industrial version of the basic model. (Which means it can last for years in a gym with full usage.) That's great for the longevity issue but how does it work.

Well I'll tell you. This review is more of a plug for the glide board trainers than necessarily this particular model. Get ANY unit rather than none at all because they flat out work!

I'm a big guy (6'2" 375lb) and I needed a unit large enough and strong enough to handle my size. This Power Pro unit suits that nicely as it accommodates users up to 6'7" 500lb. That's an enormous difference between the basic glide board units which typically handle a up to a 285lb 6' user. The monorail system is not going anywhere and there are no flexes or instabilities as are sometimes reported on the lesser models.

The attachments are nice (bicep bar bicep isolator ab crunch strap etc) and they are really excellent and super well made. But they're really not so necessary. The basic handles attached to the pulleys are all anyone really needs. Switching the pulleys to the glide board itself is a great feature of this unit and makes for not only excellent variations but also a ton more resistance.

The concept of these trainers is so simple you really need to stop and think about it. Manual simple resistance exercises (push ups pull ups situps squats etc.) have been around for centuries for good reason. They work and you can do them anywhere. But what happens if you can't do a full chin up push up etc. What do you do then?

Herein is the excellence of the glide board. You are just modifying the total amount of weight you're pulling or pushing. Can you do a full chin up right now? How about 10? Most people can't do even one; and the heavier you are the more impossible it becomes. Go home and cry? Not with this unit! Just set the angle of the glide board to a certain position and only a percentage of your weight comes into play. The exercise is the same. The same chin up push up etc. but with a limited about of your weight to move. The concept is SUPER and it really works.

Another aspect of this system I'm really liking is the range of motion you can get on almost every exercise along with great control and safety. Example: I have bad knees. My right is worse than my left and my left is reconstructed. I simply can't do a regular squat because there is a vulnerability about half way into the squat. I have to hold onto some if I do one bare. But with the Total Trainer not only is the amount of weight greatly reduced I'm in an inclined position which affords great control and comfort. Better yet I can grab the pulley handles and completely regulate the descent with my arms. I can literally "spot" myself with this system.

I've done many chest butterflies on a stack weight system and believe me they are BORING. The range of motion usually punks out towards the rear of the motion as the plates reach their end of travel. But with the glide board system your arms are fully engaged as far back as you can go but you're in control because you can put your feet down on the floor quickly and end the exercise if you need to. You'll never rupture a tendon with this system. The range and control are superior to anything I've ever used before.

How do you do lat pull downs at the gym? Use a stack machine right? Grab the big wide bar sit on some stool and yank the thing down til it goes behind your head right? Where does the exercise end at the top? When the stack reaches the bottom right? If you want fully engaged motion you have to dip down quite a bit (at least I do) and then its not very comfortable.

Well with the Total Trainer you set the glide board angle insert the pullup bar at the top of the unit move the board up and lie down on it and then grab the bar and pull yourself up. You're actually doing a modified pull up (which is what the lat machine is supposed to be duplicating BTW.) When you let yourself down you go all the way down until you're hanging there with a full stretch. That's fantastic! No other machine I've ever used gives this much range. You'll really feel the full stretch with this system.

I can do the best butterflies I've ever done with the Total Trainer. The range is total and the completion of the exercise is not compromised by the limits of the unit (as you'll often find with butterfly machines.) Also its very easy to stop at the top of the exercise and rest a bit (which is always very satisfying.) I like a 10-12 rep set like anyone but these days depending on the resistance level a 4 rep set is kicking. Two of those with a minute rest between is excellent training believe me. Because of this its easy to work up to more reps and more sets before increasing the resistance.

The leg curl exercise is outstanding. I normally hate leg curls because the hamstring is a very difficult to isolate muscle. Also most leg curl machines have this really annoying leg pad that rides up your calf through the range of the exercise. But just clip yourself into the foot pedals set a fairly low resistance lie fully down and curl those legs. The motion is very smooth and linear with no grabs or grasps at the end. The movement is very complete and you just know you've done an excellent exercise.

Put the pull up bar at the bottom on the unit and lie down upside down for shoulder push ups. You'll love the motion resistance and total feeling.

Want to do more abdominal work? (Who doesn't?) Enjoy full situps? (Most don't.) Well here's a tip you won't find in the manual. Instead of doing situps with your feet in the foot pedals and the board at an incline simply turn around and put your feet on the floor and use the incline to moderate your situp resistance. You'll love it! And you'll do a lot more of them than lying down flat on your back. Start with the glide board in a very steep angle for the least resistance in this position. As your stomach muscles get stronger move the angle down until you don't need the modification any longer and can turn back around and use the foot pedals with the board inclined upwards.

The ab crunch strap is the best I've seen. Marvelous for isolating the abs.

A few quibbles:

You must have the manual to work with this unit. I had an awful time trying switch the pulleys and fold the unit up without the manual. (I bought my unit second hand.) Bayou Fitness seems to be fine company but for some reason they don't think its important to have this unit's manual online in a PDF. They offer the dual rail manual online but the monorail has enough differences to warrant its own manual online. Several well responded but unnecessary emails were sent to Bayou Fitness about this.

The unit is a tank. 122lbs dead weight and it isn't going anywhere. It folds up for storage and moving and can be unfolded and in use within seconds. (Try doing that with a weight stack system.) Please don't let people fool you. You've got an entire gym's worth of equipment in this excellent system that's you'd otherwise spend many thousands of dollars trying to replicate on your own. Plus this system is much much much better in almost every respect. (You can get plenty ripped with just this unit believe me. Don't listen to "experts." Watch what you eat and exercise with this unit daily and you'll soon have much to show for it.)

That value of this system is phenomenal. New from the company is less than $600 which is a steal considering the construction and accessories. (I got mine second hand off Craigslist in like-new condition for just $200!) Still $1500 would not be excessive for this excellent unit and the Total Gym will sell you their equivalent (with less accessories) for just that much. The monorail is best for larger heavier people like me but Bayou sells a DXL II model for half that which is just as good if you ask me.

The important choice is not so much which unit to buy but THAT you buy; because without this excellent exercise machine in your home you're missing out on exercise that's essential controlled safe and really fun. You will enjoy using this machine for a long time. (Just ask Chuck.)More detail ...

Total Trainer DLX-3

Great home gym w/ very minor flaws.4

Let me get started by saying I did not purchase this through Amazon.com. I am writing a review here because when I wanted information on this unit I had a tough time finding any.

This gym is a great piece of equipment. I am 6'4" tall and around 285lbs. The gym holds my weight with no problem and is built very rigidly. The various parts all seem to be built well and all parts function great. The ropes are just that not cables. The pulleys are plastic but are built strong. The glide board doesn't remind me of a sofa but provides great support and a reasonable level of compfort. It also glides effortlessly. The chrome is great and the grips on all handles are of superb build quality. Setting up the unit is a breeze since it comes nearly completely assembled. Folding and storage is quick as well. The included curl bar and leg shackles are great as well.

Now for the slightly bad. Since the unit folds it has a break in the glide rails that you feel during certain exercises. If the glide board get within 6 inches of the bottom most point you will feel a noticable thump. Nothing major by any means but can throw your balance a tiny bit during some exercises. The abdominal strap included is a joke. I would rather sit on a bed of nails than use this. Crunches of this unit are great why bother with this gimmick. Finally if you are very tall or have very long arms some exercises are tough to do. I am 6'4" and max out the glide potential on 1 or 2 exercises. Again not a big deal.

All in all this machine will get you sweating in a matter of minutes no matter what level of fitness you are. I keep it between levels 3 and 8 with no added weight depending on the exercise. It goes up to 11. I wouldn't recommend this machine to someone who wants to look like Arnold but if your goal is to get into great shape and build some muscle too this machine is a great addition to your home.More detail ...

Best Fitness BFMG20 Sportsmans Gym

Great small home gym5

This home gym is small and compact. Designed really for general fitness and strength training not for huge body-building. It needs assembly but that only took me about 4hrs by myself. The only thing I would say is don't follow the pulley installation instructions. Place the cable and pulley on the machine in order of feeding the cable then tighten the pulley bolts to the machine.

This machine does just what you need as a home-fitness gym. It is compact and both my wife and I find it great to maintain tone without wanting huge bulk. It has 150lb in stacked weight which is fine for your general fitness needs. If you want larger weights then I would buy some free-weights but if you want a decent well put together home gym that works arms legs & chest then you can't go wrong with this machine.More detail ...

Bowflex Revolution FT Home Gym

Just a FYI4

*I am writing this 'review' not from the standpoint of purchaser but rather from the standpoint of informer. I hope this can save someone from maybe buying the wrong Revolution.*

There are 3 different Bowflex Revolutions. There is the 'regular' model (the Revolution) (footprint of app. 3'X 8') then the [space-saving] Rev. XP and also the [space-saving] Rev. FT (footprint(s) of app. 4'X5').

It seems as though the FT does NOT come with a seat/chair/bench (unless "added on"). Some [other] places offer the 3.1 bench included in the price of the FT. Purchaser should be aware that unless added no bench will come with FT (again this is from my research..please correct me if I am wrong).

I am needing a bench that is able to be 'attached' to the unit so the bench is stable...not wobble-like or shaky ; therefore I am opting for the XP. The "FT" is the retail version of the Revolution. Also I personally see no provision(s) for a [true] preacher curl.

I love the design and footprint of the [space-saving] Revolution(s) just wanted to clear up a potentially confusing situation.

Total Trainer 4000XL

Total Trainer 4000XL - good value4

This is pretty much a first impressions review.

It arrived earlier than the shipping estimate and was packaged in a double box. The machine is easy to set up so easy that the hardest part was actually opening the two layers of boxes.

The TT4000XL is satisfyingly heavily constructed with steel rails and a well-built padded bench that is both wider and longer than other brands at this price. I* bought the 4000XL "blind" based on online reviews and after trying some competing brands. So far it has lived up to the positive reviews and has all the advantages it was touted as having.

Specifically it is a bit larger than other brands at this price point. The more well-known Total Gym series in particular is a little small for me and feels cramped - io am 6 feet tall and 180 lbs the outside limit for the Total Gym until you move up to the $1000 models. The Total trainer however doesn;'t feel cramped at all to me and I really appreciate the heavier longer and wider glide bench.

Like most body-weight resistance home gyms it folds up for easy storage. The wheels/casters are smooth and easy to roll making it easy for my wife to move the gym around and either set it up or fold it away for storage. Since it weighs around 90 lbs I was a little concerned she would not be able to maneuver it but she has had no problems.

Again we've only had it but a few days but so far it seems solid well-built and sturdy. Based on this machine I would recommend Bayou Fitness products to any moderate-to-casual home user. This is a high-quality piece of equipment and offers features - like the bar for adding additional weight - that are available from other brands only on their much more expensive models. It is a much better machine than the base models other companies offer at this price point.More detail ...
